Steve has a wealth of knowledge regarding all different types of vehicles whether they be electric, hybrid, automatic, manual, 4 wheels or two! We had some really useful discussions which I am taking forward to inform what vehicle I may drive in future and is suited to my needs.
Steve is very approachable and has an excellent knowledge of the roads in the area and useful local tips to consider that may affect traffic or your driving.

As someone who is neurodivergent (Asperger’s Syndrome), I was paired with Justin as my instructor after enquiring about lessons and since the first lesson, I found him to be knowledgeable, patient and understanding. During each lesson, I felt I was gaining valuable experience. Justin was keen to ensure I learnt all what was required but ultimately, I was given the choice as to how best I learnt.
As someone who was originally not considering ever wanting to learn driving, I decided to give 1st Castle School for Motoring a try and it has all been great with excellent tuition. Thank you. I am now growing in terms of my confidence with driving.

Steve was able to make me aware of what I had been doing wrong and within a few. lessons I could see my driving was beginning to improve to a point where I was being given fewer prompts by Steve. I passed my test first time with only 2 minors. Highly recommend Steve as he made each lesson fun, cracking some jokes now and then as well as his many interesting stories, but also because of his experience. I was nervous, naturally, but Steve soon put me at ease, allowing me to regain confidence.
Driving with him in charge made it seem as though the car was driving itself autonomously.. That’s how confident I became. In fact, it was a pleasure chatting whilst driving, during the second refresher.
I will never forget to use all mirrors and be aware of blind spots!

His teaching is thorough and he gets you to really understand why you should do each procedure rather than just ticking a box for a test. I feel that I have properly learned to safely drive. Steve is also very funny and has interesting stories that he tells so you never get bored. He is also very efficient and was very quick at getting my test sorted.

I recently passed my driving test first time with zero minor fault. A huge amount of thanks goes to my amazing instructor STEVE PEARCE for his excellent coaching and support. He is very friendly, patient, calm and encouraging. He can also tailor his method of teaching according to the learners’ needs and keep them calm and at ease behind the wheel. My test was postponed 2 times because of the lockdown and Steve was very supportive by regularly updating DVSA news and my booking status. He always goes extra mile for his students. Before starting lessons with Jim after having a previous instructor, I thought I knew how to drive and thought I had just been ‘unlucky’ with a few tests. In truth I wasn’t ready at all. I couldn’t park and roundabouts where a big struggle for me. I am very much a visual learner who needs lots of techniques and structure to be able to properly grasp things. Jim couldn’t have been better for this all the way from his book showing how to do every manoeuvre, roundabout etc to his techniques and stickers down his door making it easier to remember when to turn in a manoeuvre. A top instructor and a top block would recommend to anyone learning to drive.

I chose 1st Castle for their outstanding record and also my sister passed with them, and I am glad, after all they got through my fears. I have tried other driving schools, but they never really seemed to help, all I did was drive around, with not my guidance from the instructor (that’s when they turned up of course). My instructor with 1st Castle gave me the courage to drive and I felt at ease with him, he never put me down, if I done something wrong he would explain it all over again, which of course is needed when you are tackling your fears.
I was always a little down after my lesson had finished as all I wanted to do was jump back in the car and drive around, it gave me a great feeling knowing that I could drive. I always enjoyed my lessons, and found them extremely helpful, with not a second wasted. I would always recommend 1st Castle to anyone who wishes to learn to drive, without them, me and the kids would still be getting wet! If anyone is reading this who is about to take your test, a little word of advice – DON’T PANIC. Its not all that bad and after all you wouldn’t be there if your instructor didn’t think you were ready. I had a bad attack of the nerves on my test, my instructor was great at trying to calm me, he sat me down and had a chat. Thank you very much for getting me through my test. I never ever thought I would be driving. I have always been very nervous in a car but you made me feel so comfortable. I had been with another driving school before 1st Castle but I did not feel confident and was never made to feel confident. I had 11 months of lessons with no end in sight. Then along came 1st Castle. After just one lesson I knew I had found the right person to get me through. I received praise if I had had a good lesson which I never got before. There were times when I mucked up but my instructor never made a song and dance about it. He just pointed me in the right direction. Also, thanks for putting up with me. I can talk the hind leg off a donkey so your ears must have been hurting at the end of the lesson. At least you have a good sense of humour. With best wishes, Katrina

Having driven previously overseas, driving with an instructor in the car again surprisingly took me very little time to get used to. Having an examiner was harder – my worst nightmare! Examiners in the Middle East tended to be Traffic Police who were generally unfriendly to Westerners! There was just no way that I could relax, to the point that I was having nightmares before my first test. I finally passed on my third test.
My instructor was really good because he realised that I was a wreck, he kept me calm and didn’t give me time to think – we practised and practised some more – we arrived at the test centre just in time to walk straight in to my test.
I chose 1st Castle after looking up the number in the Yellow pages. I was new to Havant and the UK arriving in September 2006. I was very nervous at first there was so much to learn! My instructor made me feel very relaxed, he never got angry with me or made me feel stupid.
I was a little scared driving out to the Test Centre in Portsmouth on my very first lesson – still haven’t quite lost that feeling that I might drive/fall left off the road! I enjoyed my lessons with 1st Castle after previously having instructors overseas who thought that the only way to be heard was to raise their voices and to shout.
