Double congratulations to twins Frankie & Georgie Jones who were taught by Gilly, they started at the same time and both passed 1st time in the same week!: We were both recommended to Gilly and 1st Castle by our friends who had all passed 1st time with her. We were worried that we wouldnt be able to control the car and cause an accident. Gilly taught us to stay calm, reassured us and made us confident drivers. Frankie: “I would recommend 1st Castle to my friends and family, I think Gill is a really good instructor”. Val Summerfield (Receptionist)

Val has been the receptionist for 1st Castle for 15 years and offers honest help and advice to all prospective customers. She is often the first contact with the pupil or anxious mums and dads. Her care and attention to detail is first class. Val takes the time to listen to your needs and uses her experience and initiative to allocate an instructor who will suit their personality. The hardest decision you have to make is to simply pick up the phone and call us!

Trevor Baker (Portsmouth)

Trevor is a fully qualified DSA approved driving instructor. He qualified in 2005 after being an instructor for new recruits in the Navy. Trevor was in the Royal Navy for 18 years. He gives driving lessons in Portsmouth, Waterlooville, Horndean, Clanfield, Portchester, Emsworth and surrounding areas.

“The best buzz about this job is when the pupil understands what is being taught and the light bulb goes on so to speak. That sudden realisation that now anything is possible”.

It was while working with new recruits at HMS Mercury that my love of passing on knowledge first started. Driving is a life skill and it’s the fact that you are preparing mostly young people for a lifetime of driving that is exciting. I beleive that if taught the correct way from the very first lesson, it will stick for life. I have a methodical approach to teaching and progress step by step, block by block allowing the pupil to develop their skills at their own pace.

I live in Waterlooville and have lived in and around this area all my life. I enjoy reading, gardening and tracing my family tree. I still dream of playing rugby instead of just watching it. I’m married with two children and three grandchildren at the last count!

Phil is a fully qualified DSA approved driving instructor and is also qualified to deliver Fleet training. He qualified in 1999 and gives driving lessons in Portsmouth, Waterlooville, Portchester, Fareham, Clanfield, Petersfield and Emsworth.

“I thought driving instruction would be a career I would enjoy. I wasn’t dissapointed and it has lived up to my expectations. I really enjoy helping people learn to drive and changing their lives for the better, it gives me such a feeling of achievement”.

On a personal level, I enjoy most sports wether taking part or watching. I especially enjoy football and golf. I am married with two daughters

Peter Anthony (Portsmouth)

Peter is a fully qualified DSA approved driving instructor and qualified in 1996. He gives driving lessons in Portsmouth and surrounding areas. Peter is one of the most qualifed drivers I know and his hobbies appear to be taking driving qualifications. I have listed them below:

Full car, motorcycle and LGV licence. Has passed numerous advanced driving tests at the highest level and is an advanced driving instructor and examiner. Holds the Diploma in driving instruction, adult education teachers certificate, certificate in education accredited by Southampton University, various City & Guilds qualifications including vehicle maintenance. Member of the Institute of Advanced Motorists, driving instructors association, elected member of the Institute of Master Tutors of driving and has recently qualified as a fleet trainer. Phew!

Army cadet force instructor for over 25 years, holding the post of company Sargeant Major and then staff instructor. Qualified to drive off road in various military vehicle combinations, has conducted minibus training and assessments. Peter is a trained mountain leader but admits it was a while ago. When he is is not teaching people to drive or taking more qualifications, Peter enjoys playing the drums although by his own admission, not well and certainly not when his wife is around!

I was a hackey carriage proprietor for twenty two years prior to becoming an instructor, so have spent most of my working life on the roads. I am also a keen motorcyclist and my other passions are clay pigeon shooting and playing classical guitar. I am married with 4 children and 5 grandchildren.
